Houston Texans News & Updates

Joe Mixon, Houston's top rusher, will be unavailable for Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings.

In Week 2's triumph over the Chicago Bears, Mixon sustained an ankle injury due to an illegal hip-drop tackle by Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards.

Mixon concluded the game with 11 carries totaling 25 yards. He ranks seventh in the NFL with 184 rushing yards.

Additionally, the Texans will miss backup running back Dameon Pierce, who is still recuperating from a hamstring injury.

Cam Akers is anticipated to handle the majority of the Texans' carries. Akers, who played for the Vikings in 2023 before being traded from the Los Angeles Rams, suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Week 9 last season.

Last week, Akers ran for 32 yards on seven attempts while substituting for Mixon.

Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik commended Akers for his vision, capability to interpret the zone scheme, and physical style of play.
