When the Indianapolis Colts needed a seasoned quarterback to fill in for the injured Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco stepped up and kept things straightforward, throwing two touchdown passes. The Colts secured a 27-24 victory against the unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers by holding on in the final moments.
Flacco's composed approach and focus on fundamental play were effective, completing 16 out of 26 passes for 168 yards. He formed a strong connection with Michael Pittman Jr., who gained 113 yards, alongside touchdown catches by Josh Downs and Drew Ogletree.
Pittsburgh's highly-rated defense struggled to contain Flacco and the Colts' offensive effort, giving up a season-high in points. Despite Justin Fields contributing two rushing touchdowns in the second half, the Steelers saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.
Richardson had initially started strong for the Colts, executing a 32-yard pass on the first play and rushing for a touchdown, before an injury forced him out of the game in the first quarter.
Flacco's experience and calmness were vital for the Colts' win, orchestrating several important drives including a 10-play, 54-yard drive that concluded with a field goal, extending their lead.
Injuries affected both teams during the game. For the Steelers, guard James Daniels, running back Cordarrelle Patterson, and linebacker Nick Herbig all sustained ankle injuries. The Colts played without key players Kenny Moore II, Kwity Paye, and Ryan Kelly.
Noteworthy attendees at the game included former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.
Looking ahead, the Steelers are set to host Dallas next Sunday, while the Colts will head to Jacksonville.
