Minnesota Vikings News & Updates

The Minnesota Vikings have brought back running back Cam Akers from the Houston Texans, trading conditional 2026 draft picks. Akers participated in two games for the Texans this season but became surplus to requirements as other running backs returned to the roster.

Akers will add depth to the Vikings' lineup as their starting running back, Aaron Jones, faces uncertainty due to an injury.

The first time the Vikings obtained Akers was from the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. He has a history with the Vikings' head coach Kevin O'Connell and offensive coordinator Wes Phillips. While with the Vikings, Akers suffered a torn left Achilles tendon but tried to re-sign with the team before the training camp this summer.

O'Connell expressed admiration for Akers' resilience and determination, even after overcoming the challenge of tearing his Achilles tendon twice during his career.
