Minnesota Vikings News & Updates

Minnesota Vikings newcomer quarterback J.J. McCarthy recently had another surgery on his right knee to tackle swelling issues. The operation was a success, and the timeline for his recovery hasn't changed. He is anticipated to be back for the 2025 season.

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell mentioned that the swelling became apparent as McCarthy's rehab activities intensified. The doctors did not identify any additional concerns.

McCarthy initially tore his meniscus during his preseason debut in August. Following that, he underwent his first surgery and spent several weeks with his leg immobilized.

Even with the injury, McCarthy has remained involved by attending team meetings and observing games from the sidelines. He is focusing on learning and getting ready for his future return as the starting quarterback for the Vikings.

In the meantime, experienced quarterback Sam Darnold has been stepping in as the starter while under a one-year contract.

Coach O'Connell has voiced confidence in McCarthy, stating that he has potential as the future leading quarterback for the team.
