The Minnesota Vikings plan to begin the practice period for tight end T.J. Hockenson on Friday, as mentioned by coach Kevin O'Connell.
Hockenson has been on the physically unable to perform list since the start of training camp due to a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee, an injury he suffered in December 2022 while playing against his former team, the Detroit Lions.
O'Connell has not provided a specific date for Hockenson's return, but the initiation of this practice window might signal that he remains out until the Week 8 match against the Los Angeles Rams, when the team would have to activate him for the roster.
O'Connell mentioned that Hockenson has been progressing well through his rehabilitation and feels good, though there is still a need to reacquaint him with on-field activities.
Hockenson will travel with the Vikings to London for their match against the New York Jets and will join Friday's practice session.
He underwent surgery for his ACL at the end of January, after postponing it for over a month to allow his MCL to heal properly.
Since joining the Vikings in 2022, Hockenson has become a key part of their offense, having caught 155 passes and covered 1,479 yards over 25 games prior to his injury.
Hockenson bears no ill will towards Lions safety Kerby Joseph, whose tackle led to the injury, but stresses the need for caution regarding players' safety on the field.
