Carolina Panthers News & Updates

Bryce Young will be in the starting quarterback position for the Carolina Panthers for the second game in a row on Sunday, as they face the New Orleans Saints. Rookie running back Jonathon Brooks might make his NFL debut during this match.

Brooks, who is in recovery from ACL surgery, could potentially join Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders in the backfield, should he be added to the active roster.

This game sees Young starting due to Andy Dalton's thumb injury. Despite participating in practice sessions, Dalton will continue as Young's backup.

Coach Dave Canales highlighted the necessity of protecting Dalton, which also provides Young with valuable experience.

Young, having faced the Saints in their first week encounter, aims to improve upon his 13 of 30 passes completion in his upcoming game in Denver.

Although Brooks is not set to start, he may get playing time behind Hubbard. The team remains dedicated to renewing Hubbard’s contract even with Brooks in the picture.

Canales made it clear that the team needs to assess Brooks before making any decision about his participation on Sunday.

The decision for the quarterback role after this Sunday’s game will be determined next week, with Young expressing his gratitude for the chance to challenge the Saints once more.

The Panthers held practices without Diontae Johnson, their wide receiver who was recently traded to the Baltimore Ravens. Young praised Johnson for his competitive nature.

The decision to trade Johnson was made weeks ago, positioning the Ravens as the team to acquire him.

Canales chose not to comment when asked if Johnson's past locker room issues influenced his departure from the team.
