The Cincinnati Bengals will be without a seasoned offensive lineman for the rest of the season due to a serious injury to his right knee.
Veteran tackle Trent Brown suffered a ruptured patellar tendon during Monday's loss to the Washington Commanders. Coach Zac Taylor confirmed the gravity of the injury on Tuesday, noting a grim initial outlook.
Brown had started the first three games at right tackle while rookie Amarius Mims was recovering from an injury. Mims made his NFL debut against Washington, playing the entire game.
Ted Karras, who previously played with Brown in New England, expressed his sorrow over the injury, referring to Brown as a close friend and brother.
Brown had signed a one-year deal with the Bengals this offseason and was cleared to practice by August. Despite his return, Mims had been taking first-team reps prior to his preseason injury.
Karras voiced his confidence in Mims, saying that he was drafted to play right tackle and the team is keen to see what he can achieve with a full week of practice.
