The Green Bay Packers have added seasoned kicker Brandon McManus to their team in hopes of addressing their persistent kicking challenges.
McManus is anticipated to make his first appearance on Sunday against the Houston Texans. His addition comes to a team that has experienced a high turnover of kickers since the previous season. While Brayden Narveson has been the only kicker utilized in the first six games, a total of six other kickers have been part of the roster.
Narveson has faced difficulties, missing the most field goals in the league with five misses, leading the Packers to explore other options. Previously, they released Greg Joseph and Anders Carlson, and had temporarily included James Turner and Jack Podlesny on their roster.
At 33 years old, McManus has proven his capabilities, successfully completing 30 out of 37 field goal attempts last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Prior to this, he spent nine seasons with the Denver Broncos.
The Packers are in search of a reliable successor to Mason Crosby, who holds the record for the most points scored in the team's history. Carlson, who took over from Crosby in the last season, missed a league-high total of 13 kicks.
It is still uncertain whether the Packers will retain Narveson on the roster together with McManus.
