The Green Bay Packers hold the distinction of being the oldest professional football team in the United States, having been founded in 1919 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Originally a semi-professional team, the Packers became a charter member of the American Football League (AFL) in 1921. By 1923, they had joined the National Football League (NFL), where they have remained ever since. Notably, the Packers are the only major professional sports team in the United States that is publicly owned and operates as a non-profit, with over 115,000 shareholders owning stakes in the franchise.
Throughout their history, the Packers have secured 13 NFL Championships, including victories in the first two Super Bowls in 1966 and 1967. Remarkably, they are the only team to have clinched three consecutive NFL Championships, achieving this feat from 1929 to 1931. The team shares one of the fiercest rivalries in professional sports with the Chicago Bears, a rivalry that remains intense to this day.
The Packers have been home to numerous Hall of Fame players such as Bart Starr, Vince Lombardi, Reggie White, and Brett Favre. Their home stadium, Lambeau Field, is famously dubbed the "Frozen Tundra" due to the frigid weather conditions that typically characterize it. Known for their consistent performance, the Packers have been regular contenders in the NFL, frequently making playoff appearances and vying for championships.
