Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre is seeking to expand his defamation lawsuit against Mississippi Auditor Shad White to include White's book titled "Mississippi Swindle: Brett Favre and the Welfare Scandal that Shocked America." Favre's legal team argues that both the title and content of the book are defamatory towards him.

White has justified his book, claiming that he is personally financing his legal defense. He argues that Favre's lawsuit lacks any substantial basis and insists on defending his narrative of the welfare scandal.

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch stepped away from defending White in the defamation case after White announced his intention to publish the book. White has accused Fitch of delaying the recovery of misused funds and of suggesting the use of private attorneys for the recovery efforts.

While Favre has not faced criminal charges, he is included in a state lawsuit aimed at recovering funds improperly diverted from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. White alleges that Favre received payment for speeches from a nonprofit that utilized welfare funds, but did not actually deliver the scheduled speeches.

Favre has already repaid $1.1 million, although White insists he still owes an additional $730,000 due to accumulated interest. Favre initially filed defamation lawsuits against White, Shannon Sharpe, and Pat McAfee, but has since withdrawn the suit against McAfee following an apology.

Recently, a federal appeals court dismissed Favre's lawsuit against Sharpe, leaving the suit against White as the only active case.
