Following an episode of irregular heartbeat during the Chargers' game against the Broncos on Sunday, Coach Jim Harbaugh will be using a heart monitor and taking medication for the upcoming two weeks.
After visiting a cardiologist, Harbaugh was advised not to undergo a medical procedure yet, although it might be needed in the future. He has previously undergone ablations to address the heart tissue responsible for the irregular heartbeat.
Harbaugh remains committed to his coaching duties and has no intention of stepping down from football. He is adhering to medical advice and has learned more about managing his heart condition.
He feels confident about handling the situation yet will continue to consult with medical professionals. On Sunday, Harbaugh briefly left the game due to a bout of atrial flutter. He received treatment from paramedics in the locker room who helped restore his heart rhythm, allowing him to finish coaching the game. During his brief absence, defensive coordinator Jesse Minter served as interim head coach.
Harbaugh mentioned that the altitude in Denver did not impact his heart condition, although he experienced discomfort before the flight. He humorously remarked to quarterback Justin Herbert that he couldn't determine whether his excitement for the game or arrhythmia was causing the symptoms.
