Los Angeles Chargers News & Updates

The Chargers' coach Jim Harbaugh has voiced his annoyance about the lack of roughing the passer calls in favor of Justin Herbert. He drew a comparison between the types of hits Herbert endures and those that Shaquille O'Neal faced, where his size often meant the fouls went unnoticed.

This season, no opposing team has been penalized for roughing the passer against Herbert, while Justin Fields tops the league with six such penalties. Despite this, Herbert has been involved in thirteen penalties since 2020, ranking him ninth in the league.

Harbaugh highlighted certain incidents during games against the Saints and Browns as examples where penalties were overlooked. He mentioned that although Herbert's sturdiness under pressure is inspiring, he still deserves better protection against hits.

Herbert mentioned that some of the sacks he's faced are due to his own actions. He acknowledged the need to speed up his decision-making and to enhance his understanding of blocking schemes.
