On Tuesday night, the St. Louis Cardinals emerged victorious over the Chicago Cubs with a 5-4 win in an exciting matchup at Busch Stadium.
The Cardinals took an early lead by scoring two runs in the opening inning, thanks to a home run from Nolan Arenado. In response, the Cubs scored in the second inning with a sacrifice fly by Patrick Wisdom.
The competition remained tight until the seventh inning when the Cardinals added two more runs with a single from Corey Dickerson. The Cubs reduced the deficit to one run in the eighth inning after Willson Contreras hit a home run, but the Cardinals managed to secure the win.
Adam Wainwright, starting for the Cardinals, achieved the win by conceding three runs on nine hits over 6.2 innings. Kyle Hendricks, the Cubs' starter, incurred the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings.
With this win, the Cardinals improved their record to 4-2, while the Cubs' record fell to 2-4.
