Washington Commanders News & Updates

On Tuesday, the Washington Commanders secured cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints through a trade.

In return, Washington exchanged their third- and fourth-round picks for 2025, as well as a sixth-round pick they previously gained for John Ridgeway III, with New Orleans. The Saints also got a fifth-round pick for 2025 in this transaction.

The Commanders, who focus on developing talent through the draft, still hold seven picks for the 2025 draft.

Before this trade, Washington was lacking a standout starting cornerback and depth at that position. Benjamin St-Juste and Mike Sainristil were in those spots, although Sainristil is better suited for a slot corner position.

Bringing Lattimore on board enables Sainristil to move back to his preferred inside role, while Lattimore and St-Juste manage the outside positions.

Even though Washington ranks fifth in terms of passing yards per game, they are only 21st in yards per pass attempt and 18th in opposing quarterback passer ratings.

Having been selected for the Pro Bowl four times, Lattimore missed 19 games over the last two seasons due to injuries, including two games this year with a hamstring problem.

His contract runs until 2026, with a cap impact of $18 million in 2025 and $18.5 million in 2026, though there's no guaranteed money left on it. For this season, his cost to Washington's salary cap is $605,000.

Although Washington possesses the second-largest amount of cap space for 2025, they have only 30 players signed for the next season, Lattimore being one of them.
