The Washington Commanders showed their ambition for immediate success by bringing Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.
Bobby Wagner, a linebacker, highlighted the importance of this move, expressing the team's desire to achieve victory right away.
The deal included three draft picks in exchange for Lattimore and a fifth-round pick, aimed at strengthening a defense that ranked 18th in quarterback rating and 21st in net yards per pass attempt.
Lattimore, who has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times, believes the team is capable of competing for a Super Bowl.
Although currently out due to a hamstring injury, Lattimore is anticipated to become Washington's primary cornerback, a position that has been lacking top performance for years.
Adam Peters, the general manager, mentioned that the team had been looking to acquire a cornerback and initially thought Lattimore was not available until later in the process.
Peters pointed out Lattimore's adaptability, intelligence, and physical strength, which fit perfectly with their defensive approach.
Coach Dan Quinn commended Lattimore's history of strong performances, suggesting that he would improve the defense's capability to guard elite receivers.
Quinn also emphasized Lattimore's agility and his flexibility to play both inside and outside, which opens up more possibilities for defensive strategies.
