Jayden Daniels delivered an impressive performance, displaying both poise and accuracy in his first prime-time game. He passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another, leading the Commanders to a 38-33 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Terry McLaurin secured the victory with a touchdown catch with 2:10 left on the clock, and Trent Scott opened the scoring for the Commanders with a touchdown on an eligible tackle toss. Daniels set an NFL rookie record with a 91.3% completion rate, passing for 254 yards.
Despite Joe Burrow throwing for 324 yards and three touchdowns, the Bengals could not keep up. Burrow's two-point conversion attempt failed after his second touchdown pass to Ja'Marr Chase, leaving Cincinnati trailing by five points.
The Commanders' offense was overwhelming, scoring on every drive except for end-of-half kneel-downs, without punting or turning the ball over for the second game in a row. The Bengals also didn't punt or commit a turnover, marking a rare occurrence in an NFL game.
Daniels, last year's Heisman Trophy winner, attributes his outstanding performance to his preparation and focus, expressing his eagerness to compete at a high level and demonstrate his determination in prime time.
Both teams dealt with injuries, as the Commanders lost Austin Ekeler to a concussion and the Bengals saw Trent Brown suffer a right knee injury.
The Commanders are set to travel to Arizona for their next game, while the Bengals will visit Carolina.
