Los Angeles Chargers News & Updates

Derwin James Jr. of the Los Angeles Chargers resumed practice following a one-game suspension for violating playing rules. He communicated his dissatisfaction with the NFL's decision and emphasized that he would maintain his aggressive approach on the field.

James mentioned that while he might aim lower in his tackles, his playing style would remain unchanged.

He intends to concentrate on targeting players below the ball-carrying area to prevent further penalties.

The suspension arose from an unnecessary roughness call against him for a hit on Pittsburgh Steelers' tight end Pat Freiermuth. This penalty marked the seventh time in his career he's been penalized for unnecessary roughness, a record that places him second for such infractions in the NFL since 2018.

Though James contested the suspension, it was upheld by hearing officer Derrick Brooks, with James commenting that the hearing was more oriented towards discussing the violation instead of offering improvement advice.

Jon Runyan, the vice president of football operations, pointed out video evidence indicating that James lowered his head and engaged in illicit helmet contact.
