Denver Broncos News & Updates

Justin Herbert orchestrated a precise attack for the Los Angeles Chargers, exploiting the Denver Broncos' defense which was missing their key cornerback Patrick Surtain II, leading to a 23-16 victory on Sunday.

Despite Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh being absent at the game's start due to a heart arrhythmia, the Chargers dominated the initial half, carrying a 23-0 lead into the final quarter.

Without Surtain, who was hurt on the first defensive play, the Broncos found it challenging to contain the Chargers. Although Bo Nix led the Broncos on a significant 95-yard scoring drive, it was an insufficient effort.

The Chargers' defense, among the league's best, limited the Broncos to just 16 points, all while missing their formidable defender, Joey Bosa.

Rookie running back Kimami Vidal opened the scoring for the Chargers with a 38-yard catch-and-run touchdown, followed by J.K. Dobbins who scored a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Surtain's absence underscored his critical role in the Broncos' defense, which had been performing exceptionally in prior weeks. His injury occurred just one play after Chargers safety Elijah Molden intercepted Nix's first pass.

The Chargers are set to play against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night, October 21, while the Broncos will take on the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night.
