While Baker Mayfield emerged as a standout player last season, Tampa Bay remains a well-rounded team, benefiting from the efforts of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and a formidable defense.

Mayfield steered the Buccaneers to a 37-20 triumph over the Washington Commanders by throwing four touchdown passes, two of which were caught by Evans. Godwin and rookie Jalen McMillan also contributed to Tampa Bay's scoring.

The Commanders' Jayden Daniels demonstrated his impressive running skills with two rushing touchdowns, proving more effective on the ground than in the air.

The Buccaneers' defense faced challenges due to injuries among key players, including Antoine Winfield Jr., who received a penalty for unnecessary roughness.

Injuries to Winfield and other key players necessitated the use of Christian Izien at cornerback, a position in which he had limited experience.
