The NFL imposed a fine of $11,817 on Nathan Shepherd, a defensive tackle for the New Orleans Saints, for unnecessary roughness during a match with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers accused Shepherd of deliberately attempting to harm quarterback Justin Herbert.
Both Shepherd and the Chargers' center, Bradley Bozeman, received penalties for unnecessary roughness following an incident where Shepherd twisted Herbert's ankle. Bozeman did not receive a fine for his involvement in the play.
Saints coach Dennis Allen defended Shepherd, stating that his actions were merely an effort to tackle Herbert and not driven by any malicious intent. Bozeman explained that his objective was to protect Herbert, who had previously sustained an ankle injury.
Shepherd and the Saints are focused on breaking a six-game losing streak when they face the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, they will be missing Jamaal Williams due to injury, in addition to Bub Means and Kendre Miller, who have been placed on injured reserve.
