Pittsburgh Steelers News & Updates

Preston Smith asked to be traded from Green Bay because he was unhappy with changes in the defensive strategy, which shifted from a 3-4 to a 4-3 formation. He ended up in Pittsburgh, where he feels at ease with their 3-4 setup and joins a strong group of pass rushers that includes T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig.

Another trade newcomer, Mike Williams, has also joined Pittsburgh, giving up his bye week to participate in games for the Steelers. Williams is eager for a bigger role, having only been involved in 10.1% of his plays in New York. He feels that his style works well with quarterback Russell Wilson's preference for long passes.

The extent of Smith's and Williams's involvement in the upcoming game against Washington is still unknown. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin highlighted the importance of both players understanding the team's system and proving their skills before deciding on their roles.

Even with the chance of limited playtime, Smith is excited about helping Watt and Highsmith. Missing Green Bay's bye week means he has the opportunity to participate in every one of the 18 regular-season games.
