Robert Saleh has returned to the NFL a little over two weeks after being dismissed by the Jets. On Wednesday, he began a new role with the Packers during their practice session.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur has brought Saleh on board to contribute to the team, focusing on the offense. LaFleur thinks Saleh's experience in defense can offer valuable understanding for their offensive strategies.
At the start of the practice, Saleh was involved on the offensive side. LaFleur commended Saleh's outstanding defensive expertise, hoping it can aid the team in effectively challenging defenses.
Saleh will remain with the team until Thursday, with his role described by LaFleur as adaptable. He is currently staying at LaFleur's residence for the week.
Saleh and LaFleur have a longstanding professional relationship, having worked together at Central Michigan University. They maintain a strong friendship and have supported each other in their careers.
In respect for their personal connection, Saleh and LaFleur decided not to discuss Aaron Rodgers during the Jets' negotiations with the Packers.
Saleh won't be involved with the Packers' defense, which is under the new leadership of first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.
He was let go by the Jets following a disappointing start to the season, a decision made by Jets owner Woody Johnson, despite high hopes with Rodgers' return.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love appreciates the additional insights and perspectives that Saleh can offer.
LaFleur has a history of making in-season additions to his staff, having previously enlisted Aubrey Pleasant in 2022 to provide help with the offense.
