Joe Alt, the rookie right tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers, experienced an MCL sprain during Sunday's defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Because of this injury, he is not expected to participate in the upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Alt, who was the fifth overall pick in the recent draft, endured the injury in the fourth quarter's concluding offensive play when Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward impacted his right leg.
This injury adds to a growing list of Chargers' player injuries from the same game. Quarterback Justin Herbert worsened a high right ankle sprain and departed wearing a walking boot. Coach Jim Harbaugh indicated Herbertās X-rays were negative and that his availability for Sunday's game will be assessed later this week. Harbaugh defended his decision to play Herbert despite the injury, explaining that giving warriors a chance is what he aimed for.
Additionally, outside linebacker Joey Bosa was limited to just two plays due to a hip injury, and left tackle Rashawn Slater exited in the third quarter because of a pectoral injury.
The team faces the possibility of playing against the Chiefs without their primary tackles or a backup quarterback. Fortunately, they have a bye in Week 5, which could provide a recovery period for injured players without additional missed games.
