Washington's starting defensive end, Clelin Ferrell, will miss the upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday because of a knee injury. Ferrell has been grappling with the undisclosed issue throughout the season and was questionable for the Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants.
Washington's defense, already struggling, will face a significant setback without Ferrell. The unit currently ranks 29th in scoring defense and 22nd in yards allowed per game. Ferrell has been a crucial player, leading the team with two sacks.
In Ferrell's absence, Washington will have to rely on other players to fill the void. Veteran Dante Fowler Jr., rookie Javontae Jean-Baptiste, and converted linebacker Jamin Davis are expected to rotate at the defensive end position.
Cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. is also uncertain for the Monday game. He underwent surgery on his right thumb after the season opener and missed Week 2. His playing status will be assessed during pregame warmups, but it is more probable that he will return for Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals.
