The Washington Commanders have let go of defensive end Jamin Davis, who was selected as the 19th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
After playing linebacker for his initial three seasons, Davis was shifted to the defensive end position this offseason following the appointment of new coach Dan Quinn.
Davis is now joined by four other former first-round picks, Dwayne Haskins, Chase Young, Montez Sweat, and Jahan Dotson, from the 2019 draft, who have also departed from the team.
During his tenure with the Commanders over three seasons, Davis achieved a record of 7 sacks, 1 interception, and 2 forced fumbles across 36 starts while playing as a linebacker.
This season, Davis participated in five games as a substitute, accumulating 85 snaps and concluding with 12 tackles, but did not record any sacks.
The Commanders have activated Efe Obada, reducing the need for Davis as a backup behind Dorance Armstrong, Clelin Ferrell, and Dante Fowler Jr.
Additionally, by placing Davis on injured reserve, the Commanders have made room on the roster for linebacker Jordan Magee, whose 21-day period to be removed from the injured list expires on Wednesday.
In other news, practice squad cornerback Kevon Seymour has received a six-game suspension without pay for violating the NFL's rules on performance-enhancing substances.
