The 1999 season marked a revival for the Kansas City Chiefs under the leadership of new head coach Gunther Cunningham. Despite a demanding schedule that featured the eventual Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams, the Chiefs managed a solid 9-7 record, narrowly missing the playoffs by one game. Quarterback Elvis Grbac excelled, amassing over 3,000 passing yards, while running back Priest Holmes impressed with 1,434 rushing yards. On the defensive side, linebacker Derrick Thomas shone with 12.5 sacks, and safety Jerome Woods led the team with seven interceptions.
