Overall record: | 9-7 |
Home record: | 6-2 |
Away record: | 3-5 |
In 1997, the Detroit Lions unexpectedly surged to a 9-7 record under coach Bobby Ross, with quarterback Scott Mitchell and legendary running back Barry Sanders leading the charge. After a dismal 2-6 start, the Lions rebounded impressively, winning 7 of their last 8 games. A highlight of the season was their unforgettable Thanksgiving Day game against the Minnesota Vikings, where Sanders set a record by rushing for 215 yards. Although they fell short of the playoffs, the season represented a remarkable turnaround for the perennially struggling Lions, instilling a renewed sense of hope among their fans for the future.
